A man was charged after a security officer died outside a Sydney pub.

A security guard was allegedly fatally assaulted outside a pub in Sutherland, UK, at around 2am.

Police were called to Royal Hotel Sutherland, where the guard was found unconscious.

He was reportedly punched in the head by a patron after being requested to leave.

Police performed CPR and treated him, but he died at the scene.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, has been arrested and charged with assault occasioning death.

The Royal Hotel Sutherland expressed its deep sadness and condolences to the family.
